Why The Name MMMeeja?
Everybody asks this, and I’m not sure whether it’s an inspired piece of marketing or a curse.
When I was setting up the company, I wanted a name that was:
- Unique - to make life easy and get a web domain
- Memorable - I bet that (if you get to the end of this article) you’ll remember it
- Web 2.0 - Which meant taking a common word (“media” in my case) and misspelling it
So, Did It work?
Well, yes and no. Everybody that I’ve worked with, given a business card to or delivered a proposal to has asked me about it - that’s a huge success. An instant topic of conversation, about my business too!
On the down side, people cannot pronounce it, I get lots of people ringing me up and trying to sell me nonsense asking for “M-M-Media”. Screw them. The unfortunate turn of the same coin is that people who have only seen my business card make the same mistake, so I must be polite.
How Do I Pronounce It?
I'm going to take a leaf out of Linus Torvald’s book and say ‘however you want’ on this one. I can tell you how I pronounce it now (and how I pronounced it when I conceived of the name), it goes like this:
MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMmmmmmmmmmmmeeja
I do not care if you get it wrong, but try to spell it correctly when you email me - it’s 3 “M”s, 2 “E”s, a “J” and an “A”.
